Hot Air Balloons
Those of you who know me well, are aware that we sponsor a balloon at the Hot Air Balloon Rally in Pittsfield, NH the first weekend in August. This was the 20th year of doing so. The weather man had predicted rain for most of the weekend. Fortunately, he/she was wrong. We did not fly Friday night but because of the wind gusts, not rain. (It is nice to know that our pilots pay attention to those things and we don't end up on the nightly news.)
Saturday morning was good, though getting up at 5 AM was a bit much. (I took a 2 hour nap when we got back)
The flight starts out with laying out the balloon and then starting to inflate with a large fan.
Then the large propane flame is added to finish inflating the balloon and the basket is up-righted and ready to fly.
Next fill up the balloon basket with people. Always someone who wants to fly.
Then lift off. Bye!
Love the smiles.
Not knowing what the weather might bring, our pilot touched down and changed passengers. On the final landing for Saturday morning, five balloons landed on the same property. Good spot!
There is a tradition of giving a bottle of champagne to the land owner. Here is a nice picture of the land owner with two of her five bottles. That is our pilot (Ted O'Hara) in the yellow shirt.
Saturday evening was beautiful. One balloon rose right above my chair and I got this gorgeous picture. The black rectangle is the bottom of the basket. The balloon is "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."

Until next time,
